Proponent: Makris Corporation

Proposal description: A proposal to build a $250 million retail and community complex (the 'Encounter Bay Village Shopping Centre') has been put forward by the Makris Corporation, which has identified a site four kilometres west south west of the existing Victor Harbor town centre for the development.

The Makris proposal includes:

  • Retail floor space of approximately 16,000 square metres, including a discount department store and a supermarket;
  • Bulky goods retailing of approximately 20,000 square metres;
  • Associated car parking totalling 1843 spaces;
  • A mall environment with associated food court;
  • Cinemas with capacity seating for 700 people;
  • Community use building  for a library or meeting rooms;
  • Recreational area comprising passive landscaped areas; and
  • Residential development comprising 151 allotments at the north-eastern, western and south-western areas of the site.

The PER is being released for a nine week public comment period from Wednesday 19 November
2008 until Thursday 22 January 2009.

Public meeting

A public meeting will be held during the public exhibition period at which information will be provided on the proposal, the PER and the assessment process, to assist interested persons to make submissions.
