Maps Online
Maps Online has now been incorporated into the Atlas of South Australia.
Since 2000, Maps Online has been using the Atlas' interface. Given this, and the re-development of the Planning SA website, it was determined that Maps Online should be fully incorporated into the Atlas of South Australia. The Maps Online functionality has not been lost. The same map can be found by using the Atlas' 'planning' map topic.
The aim of Maps Online (and the Atlas) was to create a single gateway to maps and spatial information about South Australia. Maps Online was launched in 1998. It was one of the first Internet GIS mapping applications publicly available in Australia. The system was developed by Planning SA and built on the work that had started in 1997 with Planning SA's first (internal) online GIS application - Maps In Minutes.
Following on from Maps Online, in June 2000, Planning SA released the Atlas of South Australia. The Atlas is South Australia's primary GIS portal. Offering a range of data from a large number from Australian and South Australian Government departments.
