Description
- Description
- South Australian Government Regions facilitate the planning, monitoring and service delivery of government functions. The new regions align to whole Local Government boundaries, with only one exception out of 68 Councils, with the separation of Enfield from within the Port Adelaide Enfield Council.
- Usage
- The adoption of uniform South Australian Government Regions directly supports the ability to provide regionalised targets within the South Australian Strategic Plan (SASP) (Target 5.7). The use of uniform regions promotes improved collaboration, planning and greater consistency through Local and State government agencies, by focusing on regional infrastructure planning (T1.16, T5.11), resourcing and reporting on SASP targets. The provision of uniform regions across all Departments provides a basis for improving public sector productivity (T1.18) and timely and transparent decision-making (T1.19). The implementation of the South Australian Government Regions will enable the State Government to improve the usage of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) investment in data collection, five-yearly census and annual reporting.
Note that the regions extent past the coastline and cover SA coastal waters.
Based upon the 18 October 2010 Cabinet decision, ongoing management of the SAGR will be undertaken by the Department of Premier and Cabinet. The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will retain responsibility for technical and spatial support.
Data Quality
- Lineage
- South Australian Government Regions has generally been derived from local government boundaries NRM and ABS statistical subdivision boundaries.
- Completeness
- This dataset is 100% complete
- Positional Accuracy
- Local Government Areas were acquired with reference to Digital Cadastral DataBase (DCDB) themes. Consequently, the positional accuracy of the Local Government Areas are dependent upon the scale of the source mapping and the manual digitising process used to capture the cadastre.
- Attribute Accuracy
- Attibutes used to identify each region and the land / ocean components and is 100% complete.
- Consistency
- ESRI ARC/INFO GIS software was used to do topological consistency checks to detect flaws in the spatial data structure, this check ensured that all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at the intersection of lines and that there is only one label in each polygon.
