Mapping

Maps of South Australia and over 150 themes can be accessed through the online Atlas of South Australia.

The Atlas of South Australia is an initiative of the South Australian Government to provide a common access point to maps and geographic information about South Australia in an interactive atlas format. It is managed by Planning SA through the Spatial Planning Analysis and Research (SPAR) section.

Customised mapping and data analysis services for urban and regional planning investigations and development assessment are also provided through the Spatial Planning Analysis and Research (SPAR) section of Planning SA on a fee for service basis. Please contact us if you have any specific requests. Examples maps and data analyses can be found throughout the Planning SA website.

Please note: standard mapping services (e.g. topographic maps, aerial photography and environmental information etc) are not available through Planning SA but are available through the State Government’s mapping outlet - Mapland.

Maps of generalized development zones can be accessed as a data layer through the Atlas of South Australia and also through Development Plans Online (the latter in PDF format). Development zones are updated after each plan amendment has been authorised.

Some spatial information is freely available through our Spatial DataDownload facility, including development zones on a local government basis. This page also links to other government sites where spatial information can be downloaded for use with commercially available geographical information systems (GIS).

To find other spatial information held by government agencies refer to the Australian Spatial Data Directory. For a quick view of South Australia (and the rest of the globe) and for access to reasonable quality aerial views of Adelaide, refer to Google Earth.
