Spatial Data Download
The Department makes several digital datasets available at no cost, however you must agree to the Conditions of Use. Available datasets are downloaded as a single zip file. These files range in size from 5 kilobytes to several megabytes.
These datasets are automatically updated each Sunday regardless of whether the base data has been modified.
When downloading Land Development Zone files be aware that this system delivers the most recently authorised GIS data.

Land Development Zones
The zoning dataset consists of Planning Zones, Policy Areas and Precincts that are derived from legal Planning boundaries. This information is obtained from the Council Development Plans. The data has been captured for the state, based on Development Plan Areas.
South Australian Heritage Places
The SA Heritage Places Database is a comprehensive listing of:
- State Heritage Places from the South Australian Heritage Register
- Local Heritage Places from South Australian Development Plans
- Contributory Items from South Australian Development Plans.
Metropolitan Open Space System Study Area
Boundaries of predefined areas zoned or earmarked for Second Generation Parklands or open space.
South Australian Government Regions
The South Australian Government is introducing 12 State Government Regions for uniform use in planning and reporting across all state government departments and agencies.
Residential Development Code
The Residential Development Code was introduced in 2009 to make simpler, faster and cheaper planning and building approvals for home construction and renovation.
Generalised Landuse
The Generalised Landuse layer can be used to provide a general understanding of the landuse of an area.
Land Division Proposals
Contains Land division development application boundaries pursuant to the Planning Act and Development Act.
Bushfire Protection Areas
The Bushfire Protection Areas dataset shows the spatial extent of the Bushfire Protection provisions brought in under the Ministerial Bushfire Management PARs in 2006 (PAR Part 1 and Part 2) and 2007 ( Part 3). The dataset is used to produce mapping productions and in Planning SA's Bushfire Protection Areas Online Search Tool.
Local Government Areas
Contains boundaries of all Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
