Productivity Commission Inquiry
The Productivity Commission was asked to report on the contribution that national reform of building regulation, under the auspices of the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB), has made to the productivity of the building and construction industry and to economic efficiency.
The study was to cover most matters relating to the regulation of the building and construction industry, not only what has been achieved so far but also the potential for further reform to make additional net gains. The focus was to be particularly on the 1994 Inter Government Agreement on building regulation reform and the role of the ABCB, but participants were invited to comment on any matter they considered relevant to building regulation.
The request stemmed from the need to assess what direction reform efforts should take post-2005. The study has concluded. The research report was released on 1 December 2004.
